Nocturnal Animals Week
We have had a busy week! Our thematic unit this week focused on nocturnal animals. Here are some of the important things we learned...
In Writing, we practiced writing letters, words, and sentences and explored letter-sound relationships. We wrote using the power words "is" and "my" as we wrote about our friends. We added the word "she" to our word wall and shared our writing with our class.
We wrapped up lowercase letters in Phonics last week. We continued to blend and segment sounds, answer comprehend questions, build and write sentences, and clapped out syllables.
We continued comparing numbers to 10 using the vocabulary more than, less than, and same.
In this week’s Second Steps lesson, we learned to use body language and context clues to figure out when someone feels mad. We practiced looking at the person’s face and body, as well as thinking about what’s going on in the situation. Encourage your child to notice when others around them feel mad. Have them practice using body language and context clues to figure out when family members, friends, or characters in books, movies, or on TV might be feeling mad.
In Reading, we listened to stories and retold the events in the beginning, middle, and end. We also learned a new poem and practiced acting out the lines in the poem. We echo read and chorally read the poem together and added it to our poetry books. We learned new vocabulary words including wade, sleepless, companion, and patient. We were introduced to suffixes (-less) and reviewed synonyms.
We had so much fun on STEAM Day! We played and explored lots of activities together. See pictures of us in action below!
