Earth Day Week

This week, we celebrated Earth Day and learned how we can take care of the Earth.  Here are some of the important things we learned...

Our centers this week included playing various literacy games that targeted individual skills that we are working on in reading groups, writing about ways to take care of the Earth, reading and writing power words and words with blends/CCVCe words, reading books on RAZkids and answering comprehension questions, and so much more!

We continued talking about mindfulness this week. Being mindful is being focused on the present moment (the present moment is right now) and noticing your thoughts, feelings, and breath. Ask your child to teach you about mindfulness.

We started a new Math unit last week and will be focusing on numbers to 100 for the last few weeks of Kindergarten. This week, we continued looking at numbers 21-50 and practiced reading, writing, and counting.

During Reading, we revisited the various big books we have read this year and talked about the ways that we have grown as readers. We reviewed the prefix "un" (not) to determine word meanings, antonyms, synonyms, and words with multiple meanings.  We learned the vocabulary words unselfish, selfish, scrumptious, and blue.

In Phonics we reviewed CCVe words and practiced all of the sight words we have learned this year. We will continue reviewing in the coming weeks.

Looking ahead...

Mrs. Hollenberg's 1st grade class came to read some of their amazing published writing pieces

We made cards for our 4th grade buddies to wish them good luck with MAP testing. They worked very hard today and yesterday so they deserved some buddy time! We played a fun came called Masterchef, where they made amazing looking food out of play dough.
