Pumpkin Week

We have had a busy two weeks learning about spiders and pumpkins! Here are some of the important things we learned...

Our literacy centers included:
ABC center- We played CVC games.
Reading group with Mrs. Silvey
iPad center- We read books assigned to us on RAZKids.
Theme center- We sequenced The Itsy Bitsy Spider while we read the poem and sequenced the life cycle of a pumpkin.
Write the Room center- We found CVC words and power words. We read them and wrote them.
Word Work center- We read, wrote, and drew CVC words and matched CVC pictures to the words.

During Writing, we listened to and discussed good writing, generated ideas and wrote about ourselves, practiced telling our stories orally, and worked on writing from left to right.  We also started using our word wall and sound wall to help us write power words.  We also learned the power word "like" and wrote about things we liked and are interested in.

We continued our measurement unit in Math by comparing the height and weight of multiple objects. We used new vocabulary to compare including taller, shorter, heavier, and lighter.

In Reading, we have been working on making text to text and text to self connections.  We are working on pointing to words as we read familiar poems and songs.  Our new vocabulary words that we learned these last few weeks include champion, invite, lonely, sneak, persistent, and imitate.

During Phonics, we worked on the letters h, k, l, p, and j. We also worked on blending and segmenting sounds in words. We continued to tap, map, and write CVC words. We also worked on punctuation, comprehension, and sentence structure.

We wrapped up our Second Steps lessons about bullying. Our lessons taught us how to refuse bullying and how to be a good bystander.

Looking ahead...
