We finished up our Post Office unit this week and were excited to celebrate Valentine's Day!
Our centers this week included various writing activities for our valentines, playing CVC and blends games, building sentences and words with blends, and reading and writing sight words.
In Writing, we heard, visualized, and acted out poems. We tried writing poems of our own! We learned about repetition and revisited rhyming words.
In this week’s Second Steps lesson, we reviewed what we have learned about kindness and the power of kind acts to help people feel good. We drew ourselves doing a kind act for someone at school. Ask your child to show or tell you about how they can show kindness at school. Encourage them to draw a picture of themselves doing a kind act at home too.
In Math, we started our new unit on Addition. We learned vocabulary like addends, sum and number sentence. We also learned a new doubles rap that we will be practicing.
In Reading, we continued our exploration of places in our community by listening to nonfiction books about libraries. We discussed information we learned about the topic and made text-to-self and text-to-text connections. We also compared and contrasted the two books. We revisited some familiar big books, reviewed punctuation and rhyme, and echo read to build our oral fluency. Our vocabulary words this week were study, curious, organize, and reorganize.
During Phonics, we continued our work with long and short vowels. We reviewed the "ck" blend and talked about when to use "k" versus "c" at the beginning of a word (we use "c" when the sound is followed by the letters a, o, u and "k" if there is an e or i after it). We made word ladders with CVC words and practicing changing the middle and ending sounds. We learned the power words "as" and "has".
