100th day theme

We had fun getting ready for the 100th Day of School this week!

Our literacy centers included activities that focus on words that begin and end with blends, counting to 100 activities and writing about various 100th day topics.

We learned the -ng ending during Phonics and read a few Shared Reading books and passages that had the -ing ending! Ask your child to write -ing words such as king, ring, sing, etc.

We started our nonfiction writing unit this week! In our lessons, we read nonfiction books and generated a list of questions that we wanted to learn about the topic. We explored question words and wrote a list of interesting people to write about. We wrote about different jobs, especially Charlie's job as a therapy dog. We get to share our writing pieces with Charlie next week!

We also started our nonfiction unit in Reading! We began our exploration of places in our community by listening to the nonfiction book My Home, Your Home. We identified the main topic of the book, discussed the information we learned, and made text to self connections. We explored the differences between fiction and nonfiction books.  We learned the words apart, explain, attach, and reattach during our vocabulary lessons.

In this week’s Second Steps lesson, we practiced two kind acts: asking, “Would you like to share?” and “Would you like a hug?” Encourage your child to offer to share items at home. For example, have them help you make a snack and then offer to share it with other family members. Encourage them to offer hugs to family members or friends when they are tired or sad or need encouragement.

During Math, we worked on decomposing teen numbers using tens and ones.  We learned how to count on from ten and add ones to form a teen number.  Ask your child to teach you!

We did lots of fun 100th day activities, like going on a number hunt, 100 exercises, building creations with 100 legos, made predictions of where we would end up in Reed after we took 100 steps etc.
