Todd Parr Week 2

We have had a very busy week wrapping up our Todd Parr unit!  Here are some of the important things we learned...

Our literacy centers this week were full of fun Todd Parr activities! We completed various activities including a writing response at writing center.  We wrote about different feelings at Theme center.  We worked on rhyming words and beginning sounds at ABC center and played Starfall at iPad center.  In the coming weeks, each center will be differentiated to meet the needs of each individual group.  More to come!

In Reading, we learned many new high frequency words: I, a, see, you, and me. We listened to and discussed the story I Went Walking and worked on choral reading, or reading together.  We identified rhyming words as well.  We worked on building stamina for working independently and practiced building strong work habits, which is preparing us for literacy centers in the coming weeks.

We practiced writing the heart word "see" (words you need to know by heart) during Interactive Writing. You can learn more about heart words by visiting here: https://www.reallygreatreading.com/heart-word-magic

During Writing this week, we discussed what makes good writing. We established the habit of reading aloud what we wrote as a way to practice and remember our stories. We wrote about what we will do when we get bigger and what we are interested in.  We have specifically been working on adding beginning sounds and started to practice stretching out our words and writing what we hear.  Please continue working on beginning sounds at home with your child.

We continued working on numbers to 10 in Math.  This week, we focused on numbers 8, 9, and 10.

We started our first Science unit this week, "Seeing, Hearing, Smelling, and Touching like a Scientist".  This week, we talked about what a scientist is and what they do.

We finally got to meet Charlie, Reed's therapy dog! Ask your child to tell you the rules we learned about Charlie and how she can help us at school!

In this week’s Second Steps lesson, we learned that it’s important to practice and keep trying in order to get better at something we want to learn. Encourage your child to choose something they want to get better at (such as, tying their shoes, adding or subtracting, writing their name, dribbling a ball, or snapping their fingers). Set aside a few minutes each day for them to practice the skill, and highlight the progress they’re making.

Looking ahead...
